The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Finance & Compliance Manager to take responsibility for the financial control, compliance oversight, and risk management of both Northern Eco and Renewables Ltd and our Gas company.
This is a senior management role reporting directly to the Managing Director, and working closely with the Group Operations Manager. The postholder will ensure the businesses operate with strong financial discipline, legal compliance, and effective governance, supporting the group's continued growth and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the finance function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
* Produce monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cashflow reports.
* Ensure compliance with HMRC, Companies House, employment law, and sector regulations.
* Oversee internal controls, risk management, and financial audit preparation.
* Monitor contractual and regulatory compliance across all business areas.
* Manage relationships with accountants, auditors, insurers, and banks.
* Support funding applications, government scheme compliance (ECO4, GBIS), and insurance-backed works.
* Provide financial insight to the Managing Director and Board to support decision-making.
* Implement systems and processes to improve efficiency and transparency in finance and compliance functions.
* Support staff training on compliance, reporting, and financial awareness.
Essential Criteria
* Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
* Proven experience as a Finance Manager, Compliance Manager, or Senior Accountant in a regulated industry.
* Strong understanding of UK accounting standards, HMRC compliance, and financial reporting.
* Experience developing and managing budgets, forecasts, and cashflow.
* Knowledge of compliance requirements across construction, energy, or gas/renewables sectors.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* High attention to detail, integrity, and ability to manage confidential information.
* IT literate with advanced Excel and accounting software experience.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in construction, renewables, or gas/heating industries.
* Knowledge of ECO4, GBIS, PAS 2030/2035, and government-backed compliance frameworks.
* NEBOSH / IOSH or similar Health & Safety qualification.
* Background in internal audits, risk management, or quality assurance systems.
* Experience implementing new finance and compliance systems in a growing business.
* Based in Barnsley / South Yorkshire or within commuting distance.
