Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to work within our children’s Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Teams. The post is based in the South Cambs and City area, supporting children and young people (0-19 years) within local special schools, clinics, children’s homes, mainstream schools and local pre-school settings. The role has clinical and administrative components supporting the therapists in delivering care for children and young people with a range of disabilities and developmental delays, including direct work with children, young people and families under the direction of a therapist.
Responsibilities
* Carry out clinical interventions with children and young people under the direction of the Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist. This includes children/young people of pre-school and school age, including those attending local special schools.
* Support therapists in clinic settings to carry out standardised assessments and record findings.
* Support therapists in the provision, correct prescription and monitoring of specialist equipment and orthotics for children and young people.
* Visit children/young people at home, under the direction of the therapist, as required.
* Monitor progress and recognise when to discuss changes with the therapist (in addition to any scheduled discussions).
* Make observations about children/young people’s abilities and responses to activities and feed these back to the therapist to aid assessment and therapy.
* Liaise with Equipment Company Representatives to set up assessments and obtain quotes for equipment for children and young people.
* Work flexibly to support the diverse work of the Physio and Occupational Therapy Teams, prioritising tasks as requested.
Administrative and Supporting Activities
* Carry out clerical and administrative tasks supporting clinical work, including arranging appointments, data collection and entry (manually and/or using IT), filing, photocopying and typing of clinical reports, letters and treatment plans.
* Ensure data is collected and entered onto therapy databases; organise and prepare treatment materials and clean as necessary.
* Use IT resources to support administrative tasks (e-mail, internet) and support the assessment, ordering and delivery of equipment for children and young people in nursery, school and home settings.
* Contribute to administrative duties connected with the caseload, including maintenance of case notes and adherence to service standards.
* Maintain own professional development and participate in annual appraisal; assist in training other professionals and parents where appropriate; participate in in-service training and mandatory training as required.
* Attend all mandatory training and undertake clinical competencies specific to the role.
Governance and Professional Practice
* Contribute to CCS internal and external communication strategies as appropriate, and engage with patients and the public in line with statutory requirements.
* Observe confidentiality and follow Data Protection Act requirements; adhere to CCS information governance and information security policies; participate in risk management, infection control, audits and emergency preparedness as required.
Organization and Context
On April 1, 2026, Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust and Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust will merge to form a single Trust.
