Responsibilities
Position Summary: The Psychiatrist is a physician licensed by the State of Michigan, specializing in psychiatry. Responsibilities include completing psychiatric admission evaluations, discharge summaries, medication reviews, and writing admission, discharge, medication, labs, and x-ray orders. The psychiatrist provides psychotherapy to individuals, families, and groups as needed and participates in treatment plan meetings.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
1. Formulates diagnoses based on history, psychiatric examination, physical examination, and clinical findings.
2. Provides leadership to the treatment team at least three times per week, working cooperatively with team members, community gatekeepers, case managers, and other health services.
3. Prescribes pharmacological therapies according to policies, procedures, and best practices.
4. Provides information/education and obtains informed consent for psychotropic medications.
5. Prescribes non-pharmacological therapies and diagnostic tests cost-effectively when needed.
6. Writes orders legibly; all chart entries must be clear and legible.
7. Evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan through team meetings and documentation of patient outcomes, ensuring treatment plans are accurate and complete.
8. Meets with each assigned patient at least five days per week.
9. Demonstrates openness to constructive advice from team members.
10. Writes discharge orders daily by 12 noon for timely discharges and admissions.
11. Signs and dates all required medical record entries; completes medical records within 30 days post-discharge.
12. Conducts timely doctor-to-doctor reviews as communicated by UR to minimize insurance denial days.
13. Maintains contracted daily caseload.
14. Assumes safety responsibilities, reporting concerns and accidents promptly, completing injury reports, and adhering to safety policies and procedures.
Other Job Functions and Responsibilities
1. Serves as a consultant to other agency staff, providing education on psychiatric medications, conditions, and caregiver interventions.
2. Assumes a teaching role in educational offerings.
Physical Demands of the Job
Includes light lifting, use of office equipment, and prolonged sitting, standing, and walking, with physical and mental demands.
Working Conditions
1. Normal office environment.
2. Ability to lift 0-25 lbs; may handle minor office equipment and supplies.
3. Contact with patients in various circumstances, including emergencies or crises.

Qualifications
Minimum Skills, Experience, Licensure, and Education:
1. Possess an M.D. degree.
2. Licensure by the State of Michigan as a Licensed Psychiatrist.
