About the Firm:
Our client is a specialist law firm based in Macclesfield, focused on Personal Injury (PI), Medical Negligence, and Housing Disrepair (HDR) cases. Our firm is known for securing justice for clients and delivering exceptional service. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Accountant to join their finance team and support the firm’s financial operations and compliance.
Role Overview:
The Accountant will take ownership of the firm’s day-to-day financial management and reporting. This role includes managing a small team of two accounts clerks, so prior experience leading or supervising a team would be beneficial (though not essential). The ideal candidate will bring strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and a good understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee daily financial operations including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and reporting.
2. Prepare monthly management accounts, support budgeting and forecasting activities.
3. Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs), handling client and office accounts correctly.
4. Monitor and manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, and payment processes.
5. Support credit control, WIP monitoring, disbursement recovery, and other finance-related case processes.
6. Liaise with auditors and assist in preparation for external audits.
7. Supervise and support the development of a small finance team (2 accounts clerks).
8. Collaborate with the wider team to ensure financial transparency and operational efficiency.
9. Utilize financial software and case management systems for reporting and data management.
Key Requirements:
1. Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounting role, ideally within a legal or professional services setting.
2. Qualified to AAT Level 4 or equivalent; candidates working towards ACA, ACCA, or CIMA are welcome.
3. Experience managing or supervising a small team is preferred but not essential.
4. Solid knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs) is essential.
5. Proficiency in financial systems and case management software used in law firms.
6. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
