This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) in a Peer Support work role. This role builds on the success of a Maudsley Charity-funded project to embed Peer Workers into the Croydon Home Treatment Team. Peer Support Workers will use their lived experience of mental illness to inspire hope that recovery is possible. They will work with service users by offering emotional support, promoting social inclusion, sharing coping mechanisms, and supporting them to navigate mental health services.
The successful candidate will have completed an accredited Peer Worker training course or be willing to complete training. This role is specifically designed for individuals with lived experience of mental health difficulties and experience of using mental health services.
The post holder is responsible for building and maintaining professional relationships with clinical staff, peers, care coordinators, and others in the MDT. They will encourage open communication and actively participate in creating an open and safe working environment that promotes shared learning, growth, and development.
Peer Support Workers will receive full support through regular one-to-one supervision with a dedicated Peer Support Work coordinator and team line management, as well as access to the SLaM-wide group supervision.

Main Responsibilities
1. Based at the Croydon Home Treatment Team, working with other team members to undertake home visits and promote social inclusion.
2. Explain and promote the role of Peer Support to other members of the MDT and new staff.
3. Use lived experience to inspire hope, sharing safely and effectively.
4. Utilize agreed recovery tools that are person-centered and flexible to support service users.
5. Communicate with patients, clients, and carers with empathy and reassurance, overcoming barriers to understanding.
6. Support service users in understanding mental health services and how to support their treatment, alongside other community resources.
7. Signpost to community and online resources, and access appropriate social care resources.
8. Participate in regular supervision with senior staff and peer mentoring at SLaM.
9. Engage in group supervision for peer workers at SLaM.
10. Organize workload under the supervision of an Advanced Practitioner.
