Job Description:
Your new role
Southend City Council is looking to appoint a full-time, permanent Independent Reviewing Officer to join the Safeguarding and Reviews Service. The successful candidate will join a service committed to ensuring that care plans for children are progressed without delay and lead to improved outcomes for children. As the new IRO, you will chair and record reviews for children who are looked after, in foster placements, adoptive placements, residential establishments, or placed at home with parents while subject to a care order. You will confirm the care plan in accordance with legislation, IRO guidance, and SCC policy and procedures.
You will monitor the progress of plans for children between CLA Reviews and Child Protection Conferences to ensure their needs are met. You will join a service that Ofsted reported in 2023 as having positive social workers who feel safe and have a sense of belonging. Management is considered thoughtful, and senior leadership is visible, allowing social workers to discuss issues affecting their work with children.
Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available. However, you will be expected to work in the office 3 days a week.
What you'll need to succeed
* Be able to work in the UK, with a recognized Social Work qualification, and be registered with Social Work England.
* Have statutory local authority children's services experience, including improving outcomes for children who are harmed, experience with domestic abuse and chronic neglect.
* Ability to engage in a restorative manner with parents, carers, and children to make them central to planning.
* Share expertise in child protection with colleagues and partner agencies.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to manage a varied workload.
What you'll get in return
* Pension: Membership of the LGPS, providing a secure future independent of market fluctuations.
* Leave Entitlements: 25 to 32 days of leave based on service, plus flexible working and family-friendly leave.
* Additional benefits: Access to wellbeing support, salary sacrifice schemes for bicycles, cars, electronics, gym memberships, and discounts on various products and services.
