Project Brief
The Ashfield STEM Boost Project, running from September to December 2025, supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, is designed to increase the number of STEM jobs and long-term STEM careers available to Ashfield residents. To achieve this, we are equipping the key stakeholders who guide residents into employment with a stronger understanding of STEM pathways and opportunities. Our workshops will support: Educators, Department for Work and Pensions staff and VCSE practitioners. These are the people who most directly advise residents on their career options, and our aim is to strengthen their knowledge so they can better guide others into sustainable STEM careers.
Role Description
We are seeking one or more enthusiastic educators or professionals with a strong STEM
background to deliver the programme. The ideal candidate will:
• Be based in the Ashfield region
• Have teaching or training experience, with the ability to engage non-technical audiences
• Be confident in translating STEM knowledge into practical career guidance
What the role involves
• Designing and delivering up to 10 x one-hour sessions (flexibly scheduled) delivered in
person in Ashfield
• Giving participants a broad understanding of the STEM umbrella -key sectors, career
pathways, and types of roles available
• Including additional skills and knowledge that would be useful for those guiding
residents into employment
• Co-authoring a take-home handbook that consolidates session learnings and ensures participants can apply knowledge in their work
Outcomes for participants
By the end of the programme, participants should:
• Be more confident in explaining STEM career pathways to residents
• Understand the breadth of STEM sectors and the skills employers look for
• Have a practical handbook they can use and share in their day-to-day work
Qualifications
* Current educator (qualified teacher status)
* Strong organisational and administrative skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Experience with project coordination and client relations
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard office software
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively
