Overview
Safety, Health, Fire and Environmental Officer – role at NBT Brunei (Inchcape).
Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Working hours: Monday to Friday – Full time. Capacity: Permanent position. Salary: £38,000 – £45,000 per annum.
Responsibilities
* Advise on matters relating to H&SE, including the obligations and responsibilities of managers, employees and contractors.
* Conduct internal H&SE audits and inspections to meet company standards and comply with current legislation; promote continued improvement and change.
* Maintain and keep records of inspections, producing reports and action plans to ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate risks.
* Follow up on action plans and resolutions, escalating as appropriate.
* Collaborate with Operations and Projects teams to ensure contractors provide suitable Risk Assessments, Method Statements and documentation.
* Provide appropriate Health, Safety and Fire risk assessment methodology to identify potential risks and implement control measures.
* Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses; recommend resolutions or procedural changes.
* Manage the accident policy to minimise risk.
* Deliver a comprehensive training programme to promote and sustain a positive Health & Safety and Environmental culture.
* Carry out inductions for new starters and contractors; ensure contractors are appropriately managed.
* Stay abreast of current and proposed Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and advise/act accordingly.
* Work with advisory and legal bodies for Group (e.g., HSE) or local authorities; work with product and supply teams to ensure safe storage and transportation of product.
* Collaborate within the management team to refine and deliver the Health, Safety and Environmental Strategy; ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
* Ensure Occupational Health testing is carried out and monitored; deliver toolbox talks and training.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience in high-risk environments preferred.
* NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
* Environmental qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
* Experience within a manufacturing environment: 3–5 years in a safety role.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain health and safety processes to diverse audiences and to present to groups.
* Ability to understand and analyse complex information and present it simply and accurately; investigative mindset.
* IT skills with working knowledge of MS Office; attention to detail; flexible approach to work.
* Ability to understand regulations and explain them to the wider business to ensure compliance.
* Willing to travel and hold a current driving license.
* Self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
