Job Purpose
Provide an orthodontic service implementing care plans and performing orthodontic procedures within scope of practice. Contribute to the clinical management of patients requiring orthodontic treatment in collaboration with Orthodontic Consultants and multidisciplinary professionals to improve patient care. Participate in audit, quality assurance programmes and promote evidence‑based practice. Teach, mentor and assess student dental nurses and professional staff, fostering a learning culture.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement orthodontic care plans and perform procedures following written prescription.
* Collaborate with Orthodontic Consultants and other healthcare professionals for patient management.
* Participate in audit and quality assurance programmes and promote evidence‑based practice.
* Teach, mentor and assess student dental nurses and professional staff to promote a learning culture.
* Record essential patient information in line with GDC guidelines.
* Establish and maintain effective leadership within the clinical team and support cohesive multidisciplinary working.
* Assist in the development and evaluation of clinical policies, protocols and pathways.
* Liaise with other departments and inform patients about appliance care, risks and benefits of orthodontics.
* Communicate treatment plans to patients, carers and the dental team.
* Maintain confidentiality of patient, staff and service information in accordance with Trust policies and the Data Protection Act.
* Support the Trust’s internal audit service in the area of Orthodontics.
* Communicate across organisational barriers as required.
Communication and Relationship Skills
* Communicate timely and courteously with staff, patients and families.
* Provide and receive complex, sensitive information using tact and persuasive communication, especially when conveying bad news.
* Contribute to a learning environment and effectively utilise learning opportunities for personal and professional development.
* Maintain accurate documentation of patient information.
* Establish clear, positive leadership within the clinical team.
* Support audit services and facilitate cross‑organisational communication.
