Our client is seeking a highly skilled Core Infrastructure Engineer to act as the final escalation point for their infrastructure environment. This position requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external support partners.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing core infrastructure systems, while planning upgrades, patching, and project work throughout the year. A key part of the role will involve ensuring that maintenance activities are scheduled outside of peak business periods to minimise operational disruption.
This is a varied and dynamic role within a fast‑evolving industry, offering exposure to a wide range of infrastructure and security-focused projects. The ideal candidate will be proactive, self‑sufficient, and capable of managing their workload independently while adapting to changing priorities.
Core Responsibilities
* Act as an escalation point and final line of technical support for infrastructure issues
* Coordinate upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities with third‑party support providers
* Plan infrastructure changes in alignment with business requirements and avoid peak operational periods
* Deliver and contribute to a range of infrastructure and security-related projects
* Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure successful project delivery
* Support modern security practices and drive ongoing improvements across the infrastructure estate
* Manage competing priorities in a dynamic and evolving technical environment
* Strong understanding of networking, including:
* Active Directory
* Microsoft 365 / Office 365
* Fortinet, including Fortinet WiFi
* HPE Servers
* HPE Storage
* Veeam Backup
* VMware
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Experience working with third‑party support providers
* Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
* Strong organisational skills with a proactive approach to problem‑solving

The role is based 3 days on site and 2 days at home.
