Clinical Research Fellow (ST3-5/ST6+)/Snr - Urology (Kidney Cancer)

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellow Higher (ST3-5/ST6+/Senior) in Urology (Kidney Cancer) to commence from 1 September 2026 until 31 August 2027 at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The purpose of the post is to provide urological training and competencies in the surgical management of kidney cancer, experience in subspecialist clinics, and engagement in high-impact translational research.

The Urology department consists of 18 urology consultants, including 5 academic consultants. The department centralises provision of urological oncology care including bladder, prostate, kidney and testicular cancers to a large part of the East Anglian Region in addition to fulfilling its District Hospital functions.

Responsibilities

The post-holder will participate in a middle grade, non-resident 1 in 9 on call rota.

In addition, the role is based at Addenbrookes Hospital, one of the highest volume kidney cancer surgical centres in the UK, with expertise in the management of small renal masses with robotic partial nephrectomies, larger tumours through laparoscopic and open radical nephrectomies, and locally advanced disease such as IVC Thrombectomy. Close interdisciplinary teamwork occurs between Surgery, Oncology, Radiology, Clinical Genetics and Histopathology. Research is embedded within the patient pathway, with the majority of patients involved in biobanking, surgical, neo-adjuvant or adjuvant trials, and outputs from these trials are frequently presented in high‑impact journals and international conferences.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification and have;

Completed a minimum of core surgical training in the UK or equivalent.

Demonstrated a keen interest in clinical or translational research.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application is required.

This post does not carry Postgraduate Dean's approval or training recognition.

  • Completion of a Core Surgical Training Programme or equivalent
  • Completion of Specialty Registrar training in Urology in the UK or equivalent with CCT
  • CCrISP

Salary

£54,499 to £78,504.23 per annum pro rata.
