SEND Outreach Worker Location: Calderdale (Hybrid working – mix of home, council offices, and educational settings across the borough) Contract: Fixed term – 1 year (initially) Hours: 37 hours per week Working pattern: Full-time, term time only Pay: £125 per day (PAYE) £165 per day (Umbrella) About the Role Calderdale Council is seeking a dedicated SEND Specialist Outreach Worker (SEMH Specialism) to support the inclusion and success of children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across mainstream education settings. This is a key frontline role focused on building capacity in schools, improving outcomes for learners with complex needs, and ensuring high-quality, consistent SEND practice across the borough. You will work directly with schools, families, and children and young people to promote inclusive practice and ensure that support is timely, effective, and legally compliant. Purpose of the Role You will: Promote and sustain inclusion of CYP with SEND in mainstream education Build capacity within schools to identify and meet needs early Support implementation of the graduated approach (Assess–Plan–Do–Review) Improve consistency and quality of SEND provision across Calderdale Ensure equality of access and outcomes in line with SEND and equalities legislation Provide specialist SEMH outreach support, advice, and training About You We are looking for someone who has: Experience working with children and young people with SEND, particularly SEMH needs Strong understanding of inclusive education and barriers to learning Knowledge of SEND legislation including: Children and Families Act 2014 SEND Code of Practice (2015) Equality Act 2010 Experience delivering interventions and supporting school staff development Confidence working directly with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills Ability to deliver training, advice, and modelling of good practice Commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable learnersA relevant SEND-related qualification and a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) are essential.
