Responsibilities
* Installing new racks and cabling systems (copper Cat 6 and multimode fiber optic) according to specifications and industry standards. Decommissioning of redundant cabling systems and racks.
* Ensuring proper cable routing, organization, and termination to maintain a tidy and efficient data centre environment.
* Identifying and resolving issues with cabling infrastructure, including network connectivity problems.
* Conducting tests to ensure the quality and functionality of cabling systems and maintaining accurate documentation of the cabling infrastructure.
* Assisting with the installation and configuration of network equipment, including servers, switches, and other hardware. Decommissioning equipment when it is no longer in use.
* Monitoring the physical environment of the data centre, including temperature/airflow and power. Working with the Data Centre Engineering department to report issues and find solutions to any arising problems.
* Working with other Data Centre Engineers, contractors, and Network Engineers to ensure the smooth operation of the data centre.
* Adhering to safety regulations, industry standards, and company-specific procedures. All activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks carry inherent risk, and every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security. This includes:
o Abiding by Mastercard's security policies and practices;
o Ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of accessed information;
o Reporting suspected information security violations or breaches;
o Completing all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard's guidelines.
* To succeed in this role, previous experience is not required, but having completed some engineering or structured data cabling studies is desirable. A strong desire to develop a successful career within Data Centre Infrastructure Engineering is most important.
Qualifications & Skills
* Ability to assess and evaluate issues to diagnose and resolve problems related to cabling and network connectivity.
* Physical dexterity: comfortable with hand and power tools, manual handling tasks, working at height, and long periods on feet.
* Attention to detail: accuracy in cable installation, record‑keeping, and testing.
* Communication skills: able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with team members, project teams, and data centre staff.
* Safety awareness: prioritize safety in all tasks and attend ongoing health and safety training courses.
* Willingness to attend industry training courses throughout the apprenticeship and thereafter (structured cabling, health and safety, electrical safety, confined spaces). Opportunity to expand skillset working with the Data Centre Engineering team.
* Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and the ability to learn other company software applications.
* Soft skills: punctual, reliable, able to work independently and with others, flexible can‑do attitude, focus on delivering objectives, self‑motivated, excellent time management and prioritization skills.
