External Examiner (EE) for BTEC Higher Nationals
Purpose of this Role
* Affirm that national standards have been achieved and upheld.
* Monitor centres’ compliance with Pearson quality assurance expectations for RQF BTEC Higher National programmes through sampling and visit activities.
* Support centres during the sampling process and in the delivery of BTEC Higher National programmes to meet national standards.
Key Accountabilities
* Undertake sampling of assessed student work within defined parameters to ensure centres assess learning outcomes according to Pearson standards.
* Provide sampling-related support and development to centres.
* Produce reports on sampling activities, outcomes, and support provided.
* Apply appropriate sanctions in consultation with the team leader if assessment outcomes do not meet national standards.
* Develop targeted actions for centres to address standards not being upheld and support their implementation.
* Assist the Senior External Examiner (SEE) in sourcing training and standardisation materials.
* Report back to Pearson and centres within agreed service-level agreements following EE activities.
* Undertake other duties relevant to Technical and Professional Assessment as appropriate.
Previous Experience
* Essential: Deep understanding of delivering and assessing BTEC Higher National qualifications, with recent experience in development, delivery, or assessment preferred. Hold at least a Level 6 qualification and a relevant sector competence qualification. Participate annually in online training and standardisation activities.
* Desirable: Evidence of recent CPD in the sector; willingness to use technology for communication and support.
Skills and Knowledge
* Essential: Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, IT, interpersonal), good knowledge of the relevant specifications, customer-focused approach, ability to meet deadlines, develop and monitor action plans, and work effectively in a team.
* Desirable: Word processing and intermediate Excel skills.
