Job Description: Subject Matter Expert and Learning Designer: IB Computer Science
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Learning Designer to develop and enhance an IB Computer Science course curriculum for the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). This role will combine deep expertise in computer science with extensive experience in IB DP Computer Science to create engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning experiences that align with IB standards and philosophies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Subject Matter Expertise:
* Design, develop, and refine computer science course content, ensuring alignment with IB frameworks, including the DP Computer Science syllabi.
* Provide subject matter expertise in computer science topics, algorithms, data structures, computational thinking, and emerging technologies.
* Create inquiry-based, student-centered learning materials that reflect familiarity with the DP’s emphasis on academic rigor, critical thinking, and holistic development.
2. Learning Design and Development:
* Develop AI processes to develop unit plans and lesson materials that foster inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to explore computational concepts through real-world problems, such as developing software solutions in DP.
* Design assessment generation prompts and outputs that align with DP Computer Science assessment components, including internal assessments (e.g., Solution development) and external exams (e.g., Papers 1–2 and Option topics).
* Use clear instructions, varied instructional strategies (e.g., visual aids, interactive coding platforms), and culturally relevant examples to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
3. Collaboration and Feedback:
* Collaborate with other instructional designers, the client’s educators, and stakeholders to ensure the course is relevant and impactful.
* Revise content based on feedback from the team.
* Work as a productive team member of a part of the global, cross-functional team.
Qualifications Required:
* Knowledge of computer science concepts, including programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++), algorithms, data structures, databases, and software development methodologies.
* Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely for educational purposes.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Education, or a related field.
* Minimum of 3–5 years of experience teaching or designing curricula for IB DP Computer Science or related subjects. Proven track record of successful student outcomes in IB assessments.
Preferred:
IB Educator Network (IBEN) membership or certification (e.g., workshop leader, examiner, or consultant). Experience with integrating IB’s interdisciplinary units or service-learning components into computer science curricula.
