Overview
A highly efficient and proactive Premises Assistant is required by Ralph Allen School, part of the Palladian Academy Trust. The role is up to 15 hours per week with Saturday and evening options depending on the right candidate. The successful applicant will join the Premises team to support the safety, security, and maintenance of the school premises and its environment.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Premises Manager with a range of duties regarding the building, site and environment and their users, ensuring safety and security.
* Assist with maintaining the security of the premises, including opening up and locking, and carrying out security checks outside normal working hours; operate security alarm systems as required.
* Help with minor maintenance work in line with the Premises Manager and Operations Manager (e.g., remedial painting and decorating, repairs to fixings and small-scale improvements).
* Assist with arranging for major maintenance work, escort contractors, monitor safety practices on site.
* Assist with the operation of the premises heating system under the direction of the Premises Manager.
* Undertake general porterage duties: setting out and putting away furniture, receiving deliveries; occasional bending, lifting and stretching as required.
* Oversee evening letting of the school premises and assist hirers as required.
* Take pride in the appearance and maintenance of the school and grounds, keeping them in good condition for students and staff.
Requirements
* Previous experience in a similar role is desirable; a positive attitude and a can-do approach to basic DIY are essential, with the ability and willingness to undertake a variety of practical tasks.
* Line management: report to the Premises Manager, overseen by the Trust Estates Lead; capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced school environment; ability to manage priorities in support of unplanned maintenance.
* Work across the local Trust sites as required for Trust-wide projects, compliance activities, sickness and holiday absence coverage.
* Good literacy and numeracy; good timekeeping; ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team; ability to work unsupervised.
* Good observational skills to identify tasks, proactivity, and initiative.
* Ability to undertake general maintenance to the required standard; positive work ethic with problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
* Enthusiasm for education and working in a school with students.
* Previous relevant school maintenance/caretaking experience and/or general building plumbing and/or DIY experience.
* Knowledge of health and safety and building compliance.
* Ability to use IT (email and compliance software); full training will be given.
* Ability to communicate clearly and calmly in case of an emergency.
