Overview
A specialist SEN school in Southampton is seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to join their team as soon as possible. This full-time role involves teaching small groups of secondary-aged students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour, in a highly supportive and nurturing environment.
You will be delivering engaging and differentiated Maths lessons up to GCSE level, with class sizes typically ranging from 4 to 5 students, supported by a skilled Teaching Assistant. The position runs until July 2026, with the potential for the role to continue beyond this period for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver Maths lessons that are engaging, differentiated, and tailored to meet the needs of learners with SEMH and behavioural challenges.
* Create a positive, structured classroom environment that supports both academic and emotional development.
* Work closely with Teaching Assistants and the wider SEN team to provide consistent support and interventions.
* Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and provide regular feedback to pupils and staff.
* Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to manage behaviour effectively and encourage positive relationships.
* Contribute to the wider school community and participate in meetings, reviews, and CPD opportunities.

Requirements
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) - applications from unqualified teachers or instructors with strong SEN experience will also be considered.
* Experience teaching Maths at KS3 and KS4 level.
* Experience or interest in working with students with SEMH and challenging behaviour.
* Excellent behaviour management and communication skills.
* A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with a genuine desire to support students' progress and wellbeing.
