Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced and motivated Principal Control Systems Engineer to join our world-class Formula One Engineering Team. This is a key role where you will be responsible for the design, development, and support of control systems group that drive the performance of our F1 cars. You will work closely with other engineers to deliver innovative solutions, from concept through to real-time implementation, while ensuring systems are optimized and tested to the highest standards. Experience in F1 SECU systems, dyno test systems and test facility control system development will be essential for this role. As a Principal Control Systems Engineer you will: Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of real-time control systems for hardware-in-the-loop test systems leading to F1 car performance. Work across multiple subsystems including transmission, hydraulics, cooling systems, engine, aerodynamics, and vehicle dynamics. Support the Head of Department in adherence and setting of best practises; along with the coaching and mentoring of less experienced staff. Be involved with departmental recruitment, individuals Annual Performance Reviews and Development Plans at the discretion of the Head of Department. Develop, test, and deploy software for control systems in real-time applications, ensuring high-performance standards and robustness in the F1 environment. Lead the plan, design, develop, and implement innovative test facility control systems, including hydraulic rigs, data acquisition systems, and test benches. Provide specific expertise and leadership for developing F1 dyno control system platforms. Integration of in-house vehicle models to the test bed control system to accurately replicate all track operation scenarios. Post event data analysis of powertrain systems, including transmission and hydraulic system, for performance and reliability investigation. Create accurate models of dynamic systems for simulation, analysis, and control strategies. Utilize advanced modelling techniques and tools to validate and optimize control algorithms. Offer expert troubleshooting and support for on-track performance and testing, quickly diagnosing issues and ensuring swift solutions to meet high performance demands. Our ideal candidate is someone who is: Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. A proven expert in control systems design, development, and implementation for real-time applications and operating systems. Capable of leading by example and a team player with an openminded, responsible and constructive attitude. Strong with their communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and report findings clearly. Hands-on experienced with F1 dyno test systems (e.g., AVL PUMA integration with dSPACE, Simulink, Python). Experienced in systems modelling (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools). Proficient in software development for embedded systems (e.g., C, C++, or Python) and experience managing the process of building, testing, and deploying applications. Familiar with test facility architecture, including the design and integration of rigs and testing setups.
