Our team at Ultra I&C Communications is seeking an experienced Hardware Engineer specializing in Satcom and Troposcatter technology.
At Ultra I&C, you will operate in a dynamic environment with a strong focus on R&D and expanding our product range.
Joining a small team, you will have significant control and input, steering product direction with support from the larger organization.
As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for designing satellite communications hardware from concept through to detailed design and testing.
Scope:
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Senior Hardware Engineer will work closely with a UK-based team of up to 8 members and occasionally collaborate with the larger Montreal team.
Projects will vary from small customization tasks to large new product developments, with durations from a few days to 6-9 months.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design printed circuit boards with analog and digital components
* Develop firmware to support hardware
* Provide technical support to production and engineering teams
* Participate in electronic design reviews and provide feedback
* Develop and execute test plans for analog and digital boards
* Debug complex hardware issues
* Perform requirements analysis from system to firmware level
* Integrate hardware with software components
* Suggest improvements to tools, processes, and techniques for quality and efficiency
* Contribute to project goals balancing requirements, schedule, and cost
* Assist in customer meetings with documentation and presentations
* Estimate effort for hardware and firmware tasks and adhere to schedules
* Review technical proposals and assist in bid efforts
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Design of digital and analog circuits
* Analog simulation skills
* Experience in embedded firmware development in C/C++, assembly, debugging, emulation, and simulation
* Knowledge of processor platforms like Microchip/Atmel, ARM, Renesas, Freescale
* VHDL for FPGA development
* Embedded PC module integration
* Design using AMD Xilinx and Intel Altera devices
* Experience with serial communications like Ethernet, USB, PCIe
* Knowledge of protocols such as USB, UART, I2C, SPI
* Understanding of microcontroller startup processes
* Knowledge of EMC standards and design principles
* Experience with military and FCC/EN/IEC standards is advantageous
* Power budgeting at system level
* PCB design constraints including impedance, current, stack-up
* Proficiency with CADStar or equivalent PCB design tools
* FPGA module design and testing experience
* Ability to interpret hardware schematics
* Experience with version control and bug tracking systems
* Understanding of firmware development lifecycle
* Knowledge of power converters (AC-DC, DC-DC)
Qualifications:
* Degree in Electronics Engineering or related Science subject, or equivalent experience
* Full UK Driving Licence
* Ability to obtain SC Clearance
