Overview
Interventional Radiology at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is the leading UK Centre for interventional oncology and undertakes the full range of interventional services. It was awarded Exemplar Status in 2012 and is an integral part of the hospital’s Major Trauma service. The department has a newly commissioned state-of-the-art hybrid theatre.
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Staff Nurse with good communication skills to join our highly specialised Interventional Radiology team. You will rotate between different clinical specialties, providing exposure to various departments and a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high standard of individualised nursing care in accordance with agreed policies, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
* Assist with interventional radiological procedures within approved policies and procedures.
* Role includes scrub & circulating duties; administration of IV sedation/analgesia/medication and recovery of patients undergoing elective and emergency procedures.
* Work Monday to Friday, 08:00–19:00, and participate in the 24/7 on-call rota once sufficient experience is gained; rota flexibility may be required as the service expands to 6–7 days per week. Night duties are not required initially.

Qualifications and Experience
* Essential – Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
* Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
* Knowledge of current issues within acute health service
* Understanding of personal accountability and own role within the team
* Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice as a practice supervisor
* Awareness of evidence-based practice and infection control responsibilities
* Evidence of ongoing personal development and ability to use initiative
* Understanding of IRMER regulations and experience in monitoring acute patients (desirable)
* Desirable – Evidence of recent study; experience/qualification in relevant specialty; teaching experience; experience acting as First Assistant/scrubbing with Radiologist for IR procedures
