Job Title: BMS (Building Energy Management System) Controls Lead Location: Plymouth, Devon Reporting To: MEP Lead Working Hours: 50 hours per week (07:00 – 17:00) Purpose of the Role An experienced BMS Controls Lead is required to oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of Building Management Systems across a secure, high-profile facility. The role involves leading a technical team, ensuring reliable system performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with safety and operational standards. Due to the nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required (process duration up to 8 weeks). Eligibility: Applicants must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years. Key Responsibilities Oversee the operation, installation, and commissioning of all BMS systems across multiple facilities. Lead a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring the effective delivery of all planned and reactive maintenance activities. Collaborate with Facilities, Energy Management, and Sustainability teams to support energy efficiency and carbon reduction objectives. Provide expert technical advice on BMS design, specification, installation, and commissioning for new builds or refurbishment projects. Identify opportunities for system optimisation, energy savings, and operational improvements through performance monitoring and data analysis. Manage and coordinate third-party service providers, ensuring compliance with SLAs and performance standards. Maintain BMS system integrity, ensuring all platforms remain secure, current, and compliant with relevant regulations and best practices. Lead on complex fault-finding, diagnostics, and technical troubleshooting, providing hands-on support and mentoring to the wider team. Maintain accurate records, documentation, and system logs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Required Experience and Skills Proven experience in a similar BMS Controls Manager or Senior BMS Engineer position. Strong working knowledge of platforms such as Trend, Siemens, Schneider, Tridium/Niagara, or equivalent. Sound understanding of HVAC systems, electrical engineering, and building services. Experience with energy management systems and sustainability initiatives. Demonstrated leadership, project management, and communication skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system documentation. Familiarity with UK legislation and H&S standards (SFG20, CIBSE, ISO, etc.). Desirable Qualifications Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety certification. Experience working in highly regulated or complex environments (e.g. defence, nuclear, or critical infrastructure)
