Approved Mental Health Professional and Qualified Social Worker
Location: Cumbria
Pay rate: £50 per hour
We are seeking experienced and passionate Qualified Social Workers to join a dedicated Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) team in the North West. The team is fast-paced, busy, and supportive. Responsibilities include coordinating assessments, demonstrating principles of the Mental Health Act, ensuring humane and dignified hospital conveyance, and providing emergency duty responses outside of office hours.
The role involves managing safeguarding risks, working within a multi-agency environment, and providing a holistic, person-centered service. The AMHP has authority to apply for detention under the Mental Health Act, and for trained Best Interest Assessors (BIAs), to recommend deprivation of liberty under the Mental Capacity Act.
Ideal candidate:
* Professional Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England
* Qualified AMHP
* Post-qualification experience with complex cases
* Willing to undergo an enhanced disclosure check
* Available to work out of hours, including weekends and bank holidays
Responsibilities include:
* Managing out-of-hours referrals and complex decision-making
* Carrying out assessments and sharing outcomes
* Arranging hospital admissions or referring to less restrictive alternatives
* Ensuring safeguarding interventions and managing investigations
* Applying the Mental Capacity Act and seeking least restrictive options
* Engaging informal supports and resolving conflicts
* Preparing professional documentation in accordance with policies
* Collaborating with partner agencies for positive outcomes
