The Role

Training is a very busy and challenging yet rewarding role like no other position in Surrey Police. You will be well supported to develop both new officers and yourself, which is refreshing!" - Police and Crime Trainer Staff Whiteside
If you are seeking a new challenge, want to view Policing differently, and wish to bring your knowledge and skills to our new colleagues to help shape the future force, then please contact us or visit the team at HQ Building A.
Applications are invited for a Trainer position within Police and Crime Training to deliver new Recruit Training Programmes. The main role is to train newly-appointed Police Officers, Special Constables, Investigating Officers, and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to become effective members of the Neighbourhood Policing Team and Specialist Neighbourhood Teams, thereby enhancing public confidence and reassurance.
Applicants should be willing to learn on the job and develop a toolkit to deliver this knowledge effectively.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure a safe working environment for students and staff, with training activities risk assessed and regularly reviewed.
2. Support and manage learning and assessment activities to ensure learner progress, liaising with stakeholders to support learners' goals within their probation.
3. Prepare and deliver initial training and handle associated administrative tasks.
4. Hold tutorials to discuss individual progress and guide learners to enhance their development.
5. Supervise and develop students in classroom, virtual, and operational environments.
6. Assist other Learning and Development team members as required.
Skills & Experience
We seek enthusiastic, good communicators eager to develop skills in training new colleagues in Policing. The ability to adapt communication styles to learner needs is critical.
Ideally, candidates will have policing experience in roles such as PC, DC, IO, PCSO, or Detention Officer.
A comprehensive understanding of diversity and the ability to embed this knowledge in training is essential.
The candidate should be highly motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and flexible with partners involved in learners' progress, such as universities and external assessors.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint) and accurate keyboard skills are required, along with the ability to adapt learning materials.
A recognised training qualification in Learning and Development is desirable but not essential; support for skill development will be provided.
