Financial Controller | Carnforth | Paying upto £70k | 4 days office, 1 day homeThe OpportunityAn established and growing business within the construction and joinery sector is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its finance function. This is a key role responsible for ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and full regulatory compliance, while supporting the wider business with meaningful financial insight.Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will oversee day-to-day finance operations and play an important role in improving processes and supporting business performance.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the finance function, including oversight of the finance teamReview and finalise payroll across the businessAnalyse monthly costs and investigate variancesPrepare and manage prepayments, accruals, and monthly journalsMaintain the fixed asset register and produce depreciation schedulesConduct stock analysis and produce review reportsPrepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss and balance sheetsDeliver management information and reconciliations for group reportingProduce board-level financial reportsManage cash flow and prepare two-year cash flow and profit and loss forecastsEnsure compliance with HMRC requirements, including CIS and VAT returns and annual obligationsLead year-end processes, including preparation of financial statements and audit requirementsLiaise with external auditors throughout the audit processMaintain and optimise Sage 200, supporting system improvements and resolving queriesIdentify and implement improvements to financial processes and controlsUndertake ad hoc financial duties as requiredAbout YouEssential:Proven experience leading a finance team or functionProfessionally qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)Strong technical accounting knowledgeAdvanced Excel and Microsoft Office skillsExperience using Sage 200 or similar accounting systemsHigh level of accuracy and attention to detailStrong communication and leadership skillsAbility to manage competing priorities and meet deadlinesDesirable:Experience within the construction sector or similar environmentAdaptable and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced businessProactive and solutions-focused approachSalary and BenefitsSalary £60,000 - £70,00010% discretionary bonus25 days holiday plus bank holidaysOnsite parkingOne day per week working from homeThis is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of a well-established finance function and play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business.Robert Half Ltd acts as an employment business for temporary positions and an employment agency for permanent positions.
