We are a leader in the pulp and paper industry, specializing in the design, manufacturing, and support of pulp washing equipment and components. Our washer parts division plays a critical role in delivering high‑performance solutions tailored to customer needs and evolving mill environments.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our washer parts division. This is a dual‑role, with responsibilities including:

* Mechanical Design Engineer: Working with the Pulp Washer Components Division modifying and designing products to meet customer‑specific applications, maintaining and organizing engineering documentation, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve design efficiency, manufacturability, and performance.
* Process Improvement Engineer: Working with the Product Management and Sales Divisions to assist customers in maximizing the performance and efficiency of their pulping assets.

This is classified as a remote position, that supports both the plant and the field. Travel to multiple locations is estimated to be about 50‑70%, with the remaining work to be completed at home location. Main two work sites needing to be traveled to are located in Darlington, SC and Star City, AR, along with multiple other sites requiring travel as well. Due to the locations needed to be traveled to, ideally candidates would be located central to our primary pulping business opportunities which is the southern US states.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide engineering input during proposal stages by identifying relevant prior designs and raising application‑specific questions.
* Collaborate with sales, service, and customers to gather dimensional data and application details.
* Review, modify, and create drawings for burnouts, machining, assemblies, general arrangements, installations, and customer approval, using the existing drawing database as a reference when applicable.
* Develop and maintain Material BOMs (Bills of Materials) based on internal part numbers and design requirements.
* Organize and standardize legacy drawing files for better accessibility and consistency.
* Analyze and resolve design and production issues, providing creative solutions and root cause insight.
* Participate in customer meetings and assist with engineering‑related communication.
* Adapt or develop new product designs to better match specific customer needs or improve manufacturing outcomes.
* Investigate legacy products and manufacturing processes for potential improvements.
* Create and maintain technical renderings, assembly drawings, and visual aids to support installation manuals, brochures, sales materials, and educational resources for internal and customer use.
* Conduct on‑site pulp washer efficiency studies. These studies include leaf testing and observational of showers, doctors, seals and other critical components. Following the completion of the study and subsequent lab work, a findings report will be completed and presented to customer stakeholders.
* Pulping fleet database development and maintenance.
* Pulping asset performance and efficiency improvement through the supply and proper operation of pulp washer face wires, doctors, showers, seals, and other critical components.

What We’re Looking For

* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
* Experience with mechanical equipment, fabrication drawings, and manufacturing processes.
* 3‑5 years of paper industry experience – pulping equipment process engineering, operations or maintenance role.
* Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., TurboCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
* Strong organizational and time‑management skills, capable of juggling multiple projects with shifting priorities.
* Clear, concise communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally.
* Forward‑thinking problem solver who considers downstream impacts—e.g., performance, capacity, maintenance, and manufacturability.
* Comfortable working in both structured and evolving engineering environments.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in pulp and paper, rotating equipment, or industrial machinery industries.
* Familiarity with washers, drums, and other pulp washing components is a plus.
* ERP and BOM management experience (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP).

Location

This is a field‑based position involving approximately 50‑70% travel. Majority of work time will be spent between our Darlington, SC location and our Star City, AR location. Travel to other sites will be required as well, with remainder of time worked being completed at home location.
