Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking pharmacist to join our antimicrobial team, due to promotion of the existing postholder. The team leads on antimicrobial stewardship across the Health Board, working collaboratively with our Consultant Pharmacist and multidisciplinary colleagues in all settings. The successful candidate will be supported by the Consultant Pharmacist to manage the antimicrobial stewardship service in secondary care. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills whilst contributing to the strategic development of the service across the wider Health Board. The post also includes participation in research, audit, quality improvement and education and training. Exceptional communication and leadership skills are required, as the team works closely with members of the executive, consultants, nursing leadership and the wider infection control team, as well as pharmacy staff within secondary care departments and primary care. Although challenging, the role will be rewarding as development of the team will be key to delivering the Welsh Government AMR improvement goals & healthcare associated infection reduction targets. We are therefore looking for an exceptional individual with a proven record of leadership and service delivery. You will need to be an excellent communicator and have the skill, enthusiasm and drive to successfully implement and manage change within a challenging environment.
Main duties of the job
Support the Consultant Antimicrobial Pharmacist to lead and manage the strategic development and delivery of antimicrobial stewardship policies, in line with national and local strategies to deliver Tier 1 Welsh Government targets.
Provide professional and operational leadership in the promotion of responsible, safe, and cost‑effective prescribing of antimicrobials, optimising clinical outcomes, minimising adverse reactions and errors and limiting the development of antimicrobial resistance in patients across both primary and secondary care within ABUHB.
Manage, organise and develop antimicrobial pharmacists and technicians to ensure that a consistent and patient‑focused service is delivered across the team.
Influence service development at a strategic level to improve patient outcomes and ensure compliance with the principles of antimicrobial stewardship.
Provide a ward pharmacy commitment in a secondary care ward environment.
Design, plan and deliver specialist training on medicines management of antimicrobials ABUHB‑wide.
Plan, lead and undertake practice research and clinical audit within specialist area.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
