Head of commercial development

Cambridge
TidalSense
Head of commercial
Posted: 19 February
Offer description

TidalSense is a respiratory technology company with a mission to transform the diagnosis and management of chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma and COPD. The company has ambitions to enable a population-scale change in respiratory care through global deployment of its technologies.

N-Tidal Diagnose is a first-of-its-kind AI-driven (software medical device) diagnostic test for COPD which uses the company’s unique, patented, sensor technology embedded in the N-Tidal device.

TidalSense is undergoing rapid commercial expansion, following a successful Series A funding round. This expansion is supported by a robust clinical evidence generation programme that runs concurrently with our deployed services in the UK and Netherlands.

To support this growth we are seeking a Head of Commercial Development for the Healthcare Provider market with a deep understanding of, and strong commercial relationships within, the UK and European respiratory diagnostics markets.

You will be joining a passionate, socially motivated and multi-disciplinary team covering engineers, scientists, clinicians, designers, product and usability specialists. This is a unique opportunity for a driven and autonomous individual to drive our market expansion strategy and the adoption of a new generation of regulated AI-enabled medical device products and services that will deliver impact in the real world and change people’s lives. We are seeking someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile, and diverse team environment, and who is also committed to our mission to revolutionise respiratory medicine.

Job Purpose:

To take full ownership for executing TidalSense’s UK commercial strategy, driving the adoption of N-Tidal Diagnose by securing contracts with NHS Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and private providers. The role will bridge the gap between clinical pathway transformation and commercial reality, working closely with clinical, market access and marketing teams, to turn interest into sustainable long-term quality revenue. The role holder must balance strategic design with hands-on delivery in a growth stage company.

Beyond the UK TidalSense is uniquely positioned to transform respiratory diagnostics on a global scale, and in the longer term this role will ensure that TidalSense is commercially and strategically positioned for the successful adoption of its medical devices within the diagnostic pathways of non-UK healthcare systems.

Requirements

Key duties & responsibilities:

Revenue Generation & Commercial Execution (70%)

* Hold direct responsibility for meeting and exceeding UK revenue targets and contract acquisition KPIs.
* Proactively generate and manage the sales pipeline, overseeing the complete lifecycle from initial prospect engagement to contract negotiation and final signature.
* Rigorously assess and prioritize opportunities to ensure resources are focused on high-probability long-term funding streams rather than non-viable or short-term pilot schemes.
* Conduct a high volume of face-to-face engagements with clinical leads, commissioners, and procurement directors to secure stakeholder consensus.
* Build compelling value propositions tailored to commissioners, procurement priorities and clinical leadership, unblocking challenges in a pragmatic and systematic way.
* Diligently record all customer activity and provide regular, high-quality reports on commercial progress against agreed timings and KPIs.
* Create repeatable and scalable frameworks, playbooks and processes to support sustainable international growth.

Market Development & Pathway Optimisation (30%)

* Collaborate with clinical and NHSE stakeholders to re-engineer local respiratory pathways, positioning N-Tidal Diagnose as an essential standard of care.
* Develop and present robust business cases and budget impact models that provide commissioners with the financial justification required for procurement.
* Map and manage stakeholder influence within target ICBs to overcome administrative barriers and accelerate procurement timelines.
* Serve as the primary conduit for market feedback, reporting critical objections and competitor analysis to the CCO and Product teams to refine the domestic value proposition.
* Provide a senior presence at industry conferences, trade shows and networking events in the UK and internationally as required.
* Provide input to commercial strategy, ensuring internal stakeholder alignment on market strategy execution, including value proposition and opportunity prioritisation.

Skills & Competencies:

Essential

* A results-oriented mindset with a demonstrated ability to advance commercial discussions and close complex deals, with a track record for hitting targets.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate value propositions clearly and compellingly to diverse audiences, ranging from procurement managers to respiratory consultants.
* Resilience & adaptability, enabling effective operation within a dynamic small company environment where processes and strategies are often developed iteratively.
* A strong knowledge of NHS funding mechanisms (revenue vs. capital, CDC allocations, transformation funding) and the ability to leverage them for commercial success.
* Specialist knowledge of COPD / asthma pathways and some knowledge of respiratory physiology.
* Ability to work cross-functionally with a multi-disciplinary team.
* Competence in utilising health data to construct and present ad-hoc budget impact models.

Desirable

* P&L management and/or commercial budget oversight.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential

* Experience navigating primary care procurement processes, and national tender-based procurement processes, including managing the multi-stakeholder decision making processes in primary care.
* Proven commercial track record with a minimum of 5 years experience in medical device / technology sales and/or market access, with verifiable success in securing repeat contracts with NHS trusts and/or ICBs.
* Demonstrated experience in selling service redesigns or disruptive technologies, rather than commodity sales.
* Established professional network of relationships within NHS commissioners, procurement managers, or respiratory networks.
* Proven ability to operate autonomously in small companies without the extensive support infrastructure typical of large corporate environments.

Desirable

* BA / BSc (or equivalent) in an engineering, life sciences or business-related discipline.

Other Requirements

* Legally eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship.
* Will need to be able to work in person in the Cambridge office min 1 day/week (in-person days being Thursdays)
* Must be willing to travel extensively across the UK, and overseas as required.
