Bavs is seeking two dedicated and compassionate Volunteer Support Workers to join our team. These roles will provide practical support to volunteers who are isolated, living with disabilities, or managing long-term health conditions. Working closely with Scottish Borders Council Local Area Coordinators, the post holders will ensure that volunteers are able to engage meaningfully in their roles within Bavs charity shops and reuse hub.
The workers will also help volunteers gain recognition and accreditation for their contributions (in partnership with SBC Community Learning & Development), ensuring their volunteering is a rewarding and empowering experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one and group support to volunteers, ensuring they feel confident, included, and valued.
* Assist volunteers while they carry out tasks in Bavs charity shops and reuse hub.
* Work collaboratively with SBC Local Area Coordinators to identify and support individuals with additional needs.
* Support volunteers to achieve accredited outcomes for their work.
* Encourage positive relationships, inclusion, and confidence-building among volunteers, staff and the community.
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to monitoring and evaluation reports for funders.
* Work flexibly to support the needs of volunteers, including some weekend work.
* Be an active and engaged member of the Bavs team, supporting the smooth running of volunteering activities across the organisation.
Person Specification
Essential
* Kind, patient, and empathetic, with a strong understanding of the needs of people with complex circumstances.
* Clean driving licence and access to a car.
* Flexible and willing to work varied hours, including weekends.
* Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Practical and hands-on approach to supporting individuals.
Desirable
* Experience of working with people who are isolated, disabled, or living with long-term health conditions.
* Experience of volunteer management or support.
* Familiarity with reporting to funders.
* Knowledge of community learning and development principles.
