First Contact Physiotherapist – The Old School Surgery
Job summary
We are a happy and stable team comprising GPs, Nurse Practitioners, and a Paramedic for minor illness and urgent care. Our team also includes Physios, Mental health nurses, Nurses dedicated to caring for our elderly and vulnerable patients, who manage most of our home visits, resulting in a low GP home visit rate. Additionally, we have Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, a structured nursing team, and a strong supportive management and non-clinical team. We utilize an effective care navigation system with dedicated slots for vulnerable patients and follow-up/continuity slots for our clinicians. Our clinical team is passionate about patient care, especially for those from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds, working collaboratively to achieve tangible health improvements.

Main duties of the job
* Work autonomously as a highly specialised practitioner within our GP Practice, undertaking clinical assessments and formulating care pathways, acting in place of a medical GP.
* Conduct advanced assessments of musculoskeletal patients as a first point of contact, diagnosing, advising on management, and referring to other services as appropriate, including liaising with GPs regarding red flags or non-musculoskeletal conditions.
* Arrange clinical investigations such as X-Rays, pathology tests, and others to ensure accurate diagnosis and safe management of conditions.
* Collaborate closely with GPs, GP team members, MSK services, and MSK Physiotherapy outpatient services to optimise patient care.
* We seek an experienced candidate with extensive prior experience, as we are an open and supportive practice.
Overview of our organisation
The Old School Surgery is located in a historic Victorian school opposite Fishponds Park and St Marys Church. We also have a branch surgery at the University of the West of England, situated in the vibrant university area. Our team includes enthusiastic and competent nursing and support staff.
We have a strong green ethos, being a Greener Practice. Our pharmacy team of 10 handles the majority of prescription requests and queries. We also have responsibility for local care homes and maintain strong links with social prescribing services, including a dedicated social prescriber within the practice.
