Howard Brothers are recruiting for a Drawing Office & Design Manager to lead our prolific in-house Design Department.
At Howard Brothers, we design, manufacture and install exquisite bespoke joinery, bound for some of the world’s most exclusive residential addresses, a host of the UK’s most ancient and historic buildings, as well as the Capital’s leading corporate landmark developments.
The role of the Drawing Office & Design Manager will be predominantly based at our factory in East Sussex, overseeing the production of working drawings and supplementary information to support the design, manufacture, and installation of our bespoke joinery and associated products.
This role combines technical expertise with team leadership, ensuring that our drawing office operates efficiently and produces high-quality, accurate, and practical solutions, ensuring we target the expected design hours and deliver to programme.
Most of our works are based within the Home Counties and Central London, though we undertake work further afield when required.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage our team of Design Managers and technicians, ensuring that drawings meet approval and construction requirements.
* Supervise the Drawing Office, maintaining efficient workflow, programme compliance, resource allocation, and quality control.
* Review Howard Brothers (HB) quotations, ensuring that designs maximize company benefit while maintaining quality and cost efficiency.
* Oversee and refine the HB Project Design Brief, aligning designs with client specifications and architectural drawings.
* Undertake site surveys, setting out to grids and datums for precise installation coordination.
* Coordinate directly with Clients, Architects, Project Managers, and Cost Consultants to ensure design integrity and clarity.
* Produce and distribute minutes from professional team meetings for internal HB reference.
* Ensure cross-trade coordination, resolving any design conflicts to maintain project fluidity.
* Research and implement design solutions that enhance our fabrication processes and installation efficiency.
* Maintain Drawing Office standards and protocols, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company procedures.
About You:
* Experienced in managing a Drawing Office with a track record of leading teams.
* Proficient in one or more of the following: AutoCAD / iX / Inventor / SolidWorks.
* Able to detail both traditional and modern joinery designs.
* Highly organized with the ability to deliver precise information within programme requirements.
* Familiar with CDM regulations, ensuring designs align with Health & Safety standards.
* Proactive in driving the design process forward, identifying and resolving challenges efficiently.
* Flexible and committed, including undertaking overtime when necessary to meet project demands.
* Dedicated to creating a positive work environment, ensuring client satisfaction and team collaboration.
