English Teacher Training

Could this be the role that gives you the school-based experience to become an English teacher? Do you want to start in support, build your confidence in the classroom, and move into a permanent training pathway?

*** English Teacher Training
*** £85 - £125 per day initially
*** Temp to Perm opportunity
*** Large secondary school, Central Birmingham
*** English graduate required to train as an English Teacher

The Role:
Join the English department in a developmental role designed to prepare you for teacher training. You will support pupils through 1:1 work, small-group intervention, lesson support, and targeted help with reading, writing, analysis, and exam preparation, while learning from experienced staff in a live secondary setting. Secondary school teachers work with students aged 11 to 16, or up to 19 in schools with sixth forms, which makes this a strong stepping stone into the profession.

The Candidate:
You are articulate, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly. You want proper secondary school experience, you enjoy helping pupils improve in English, and you see this as a genuine route into teaching rather than just another temporary post. Official Department for Education guidance confirms there are several routes into teaching in England, including school-based and salaried options.

Requirements
• Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
• Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
• Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
• Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This large secondary school in Central Birmingham offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants to build confidence before moving into formal teacher training. The temp to perm structure gives you the chance to prove yourself in school first, then move into a longer-term post with a clearer route into teaching. Department for Education guidance says salaried teacher training routes can let you work in school while you train, and most full-time salaried postgraduate routes usually run across the academic year. (url removed) also updated its eligibility guidance for Enhanced DBS checks on 20 January 2026, which remains the key guidance for child workforce roles.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this English Teacher Training role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted
