Base salary: £39,250pa to c.£49,100pa depending on skills and experience.

As an Environment Manager at HS2 you will be responsible for providing professional andtechnical support in the assurance of achieving compliance with environmental minimumrequirements, design and construction is in accordance with organisational and sponsorrequirements and policies, environmental commitments, environmental law and regulations. Youwill also be responsible for providing guidance on environmental design solutions and ensuringenvironmental issues and constraints are key considerations in project design.
About the role:
* To be responsible for supporting technical assurance through production, checking andsubmission of assurance evidence for technical stage gates, assuring the design andconstruction of the assets comply with the technical and sponsor requirements, environmentalcommitments, environmental law and regulations;
* To be responsible for supporting the Senior Environment Manager in organising, coordinatingand undertaking the environment element of the HS2 risk based technical assurance of the worksperformed and assured by the Integrated Project Teams (IPT );
* To be accountable for Authorising Mandatory Approvals: by assuring that contractor designsand construction works are undertaken in accordance with the Environmental Minimum Requirements(EMRs), with particular emphasis on the General Principles and the CoCP. (note - client assuresconsistency of application);
* To be accountable for managing and communicating HS2 Environment & Sustainabilityrequirements to the Integrated Project Teams’ contractor;
* To be responsible for providing guidance for environmental design solutions for the assetand ensure that environmental issues and constraints are key considerations in project design;
* To be accountable for supporting the Senior Environment Manager with internal and externalreporting of environmental matters;
* To be responsible for liaising with technical stakeholders via various forums at local,regional and national levels and the local community on sensitive issues;
* To be accountable for working alongside other technical specialists to develop appropriateand cost balanced mitigation strategies and solutions.

Skills
* Complex problem solving –ability to identify complex problems. Review, analyse andinterpret a wide range of data and evaluate options and implement solutions to be consistentwith other working. Also ability can be measured as part of the assessment process.
* Decision Maaking - Ability to gather and synthesise information, identify options and applyjudgement based on logic and reason and make use of a variety of analytical approaches toprovide relevant information to suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers using key facts anddata.
* Technical Leadership - Specialist technical support and leadership on alldiscipline-specific scientific, technical and environmental principles but, knowing when toseek further guidance from Subject Matter Expert or others.

* Communication - Ability to communicate many discipline-specific technical ideas tocolleagues, based on a mix of training and examples of application.
* Data management - Applies principles and methods that ensure effective informationmanagement, modelling and data security, basic understanding of data creation andvisualisation, working under supervision of line manager or in liaison with relevant SubjectMatter Expert
Knowledge
* Applicable UK environmental law and other relevant construction (including CDM )regulations.
* Understanding of the Regulatory/Legislative Framework relevant to HS2.
* Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and theneed to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements.
* Membership of an appropriate professional institution or the equivalent experience.
Experience
* Experience in managing standards, engineering and environmental activity on large complexmajor projects/programmes.
* Experience of managing competing project, engineering and environmental demands, with costand schedule implications.
