Job Description: Business Development Manager
Location: Highways | Hybrid working

As the Business Development Manager - Highways, you will report to the Business Development Director, Highways. Your responsibility will be to achieve new orders to meet targets within Telent's Highways business, focusing on business development and opportunity qualification activities that support growth through contract renewals and new customer acquisition. You will lead virtual teams to achieve strategic objectives, own an account plan, and contribute to the Highways business strategy by identifying markets, target contracts, and customers to provide value-added, differentiated solutions for profitable growth.
The role involves working with a multi-disciplinary team to secure multi-million-pound contracts from new customers and maintaining relationships with existing clients to grow revenues.
You will be responsible for:
* Maintaining and developing sales relationships with existing and new customers.
* Developing an opportunity pipeline supporting growth aspirations.
* Achieving profitable orders from both new and existing clients.
* Contributing to proposals, presentations, bid submissions, and marketing communications.
* Keeping CRM system updated with account, contact, and opportunity details.
* Leading Highways marketing activities in collaboration with the marketing department.
* Maintaining and improving customer satisfaction scores.
The role requires proven experience in managing key customer relationships within the Highways sector, achieving sales targets, and supporting sales strategies.
Typical deliverables:
* Ownership and development of profitable new business opportunities.
* Promoting solutions-based sales that benefit customers.
* Collaborating with bidding and technical teams to close sales.
* Managing accurate monthly order forecasts.
* Analyzing market and competitor positions.
* Developing win-themes and sales strategies.
* Improving proposal quality.
* Ensuring smooth handover of orders to operational teams.
* Adhering to sales and bidding procedures.
* Providing market feedback to engineering teams.
Required experience:
* Minimum 10 years of sales/business development experience with established contacts in the Highways market.
* Experience in defining target markets and securing business through strategic planning.
* Experience in writing and reviewing tender responses.
Qualifications:
* Engineering background or higher qualification (HNC or above).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with cloud-based CRM systems.
* Full, clean driving license.
* Financial acumen to interpret financial reports and models.
