The SHEQ role within the manufacturing organisation at Ibstock Sittingbourne is expected to coordinate and drive the effort to create a Safe Production/Logistics workplace through improving behavioural safety and systems.
Reporting to the Factory Manager, the person will be a self-driven, organized individual with proven administration experience, with the flexibility to cover the Production Coordinator role when required.
Future development for the role will be based upon the individual but may include the role of site safety champion and related training.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Influence safe employee and leadership behaviors through audits, inspections, health and safety surveys, and behavioral observation.
2. Collaborate with all business stakeholders to ensure our Safety, Health & Environment Strategy is delivered and compliance with all relevant legislation is maintained.
3. Ensure all incidents and non-compliance are accurately recorded on the SHE management system. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to facilitate effective incident closure, including short-term containment and long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.
4. Act as the primary point of contact for the SHE advisor for site-specific matters when required.
5. Facilitate the development of risk assessments, SSOPs, and other relevant procedures within the site.
6. Manage the site's tier boards, ensuring they are up to date with accurate information.
7. Deliver communication and training through Toolbox Talks, meetings, best practices, and safety alerts.
8. Maintain and review all H&S records in line with Ibstock PLC requirements.
9. Proactively analyze data and use problem-solving tools to create action plans that reduce risks of injury and illness.
10. Identify best practices on sites and work closely with SHE advisors to share information across the group.
11. Provide technical advice to colleagues on H&S issues and environmental impact reduction.
12. Support Factory Management Teams in developing and auditing SHE action plans.
13. Measure and report on improvements to the Safety, Health & Environment Management Systems.
14. Review site-specific procedures and assessments to ensure compliance with group SHE standards.
15. Continuously improve site H&S performance by monitoring key KPIs.
16. Implement new initiatives from the group H&S department as per the H&S roadmap.
17. Facilitate H&S committees, ensuring effective communication, minute-taking, and action plan follow-up.
18. Arrange occupational health monitoring (noise, air contamination, HAV) in accordance with procedures.
19. Ensure compliance with environmental permits and licenses issued by authorities.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
* NEBOSH General Certificate
* IEMA Foundation course in Environmental Management (Desired)
* Membership of IOSH (Desired)
* Excellent communication skills, including delivering training to diverse audiences
* Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
* Numerate and literate
* Effective collaborator with the ability to influence a wide range of people through passion and encouragement for safer working practices
* Flexible, able to work individually or as part of a team
