Senior clinical fellow in stroke

Romford
Division of Surgery – BHRUT NHS
Posted: 31 December
Offer description

Job overview

Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow within our Stroke team. All applicants must hold a current GMC registration. This is a banded post. BHRUT is one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals, providing acute care for over 700,000 people from across two main sites - Queens and King George Hospitals, as well as peripheral sites at Barking, Dagenham and Brentwood. We are a major Neuroscience Centre and are undergoing further and significant development as a tertiary referral centre for North East London and Essex, including additional critical care capacity. We are a major Cancer Centre and are actively striving to enhance the range of our services, including the development of a PET CT service; in addition our Trust is in an excellent location, close to central London and well situated in the South East. As well as all the advantages of being close to the city, you will discover that Essex has a beautiful countryside as well as excellent schools, transport links, amenities and residential areas. The trust has an onsite Nursery facility. Only short listed candidates will be notified. We reserve the right to bring forward the closing dates should we have an overwhelming response. The trust aims to provide a comprehensive 7 day service to patients and this may affect the working patterns currently being advertised or this post.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the applicant include reviewing acute stroke referrals in ED and from other departments in the hospital under supervision of the on-call consultant (including patients suitable for thrombolysis and thrombectomy) and supervising the management of the stroke inpatients.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we’re no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

Patients across northeast London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
