Overview
Are you passionate about Chemistry and ready to inspire the next generation of scientists and professionals? We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Lecturer in Chemistry to join Halesowen College, where you'll be supported to grow into an outstanding educator.
In this role, you will work towards and then deliver effective learning, teaching and assessment that provides a high-quality learner experience, playing a critical part in student success. You will contribute to an inclusive and dynamic learning environment, helping learners develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to be career-ready or to progress into higher-level study.
Working collaboratively within curriculum teams, you will be involved in delivering engaging programmes across a range of levels, with opportunities to shape innovative and practical learning experiences. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong background in Chemistry who is committed to education and keen to develop their teaching skills in a supportive and forward-thinking college.
Training and support
Training with Financial Support:
Your training needs will be assessed and funded, in particular your studies, towards achieving the Diploma in Teaching (DiT course). A qualification in teaching will provide a practical introduction and a gradual build-up of your skills and knowledge. Alongside this will be a range of job shadowing and, where appropriate, industrial updating to further your knowledge in this specialist area. Time will be allocated for you to undertake the training within your contracted weekly hours.
Time and Support:
You will be given day release to support you in your studies for your DiT course. Throughout your trainee programme you will be supported by a mentor and a Teacher Development Manager who will put together an individualised training plan to meet the needs of a changing curriculum and shape your development. The programme will include delivery of a lesson in your subject specialism, personal coaching and developing the use of creative IT in the classroom. You will have regular formal reviews with your line manager to discuss your performance and to determine your progression.
Learning on the Job
Initially, trainees will undertake observations of experienced teachers and then progress to a small teaching load which will increase as you become more experienced.
What happens after two years?
By the end of the two years, you should have successfully completed your teaching qualification and be a competent lecturer with a full teaching timetable. Therefore, if your performance as a lecturer is good then you will have the opportunity to transfer onto a teaching contract.
The College is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and will undertake Enhanced DBS and safer recruitment checks for all successful candidates.
