Main Purpose of the Job:
Ensuring the consistent safety and quality of the product range for Blue Sky and our customers, by developing and implementing effective good manufacturing practises, systems and process internally and externally, ensuring full product due diligence is managed and maintained.
Main Duties:
· To be the in-house technical expert on product areas covering stationery, toys, food contact, novelty gifts, textiles and battery-operated lighting
· Ensure all customer technical requirements are met and delivered in line with key critical path dates
· Maintain and manage a technical critical path to ensure supplier compliance with testing and regulatory compliance in line with key shipment dates for Blue Sky and Customers
· Reivew and create product testing protocols, ensuring current and proposed changes to standards, directives and regulations are captured and communicated to the supply base
· Manage the testing program for product compliance with suppliers and test houses, ensuring competitive testing costs are achieved,
· Manage and maintain testing costs against an agreed budget
· Maintain and manage technical pack copy covering legal, compliance, regulatory and recycling information for the Design team for UK and EU retail markets.
· Work collaboratively with the Design and Sourcing teams on the development of new products, ensuring technical, quality and safety requirements are communicated clearly and promptly
· Maintain and manage the technical product files, including product appraisals and risk assessments as required ensuring due diligence is maintained against company, customers and licensors requirements.
· Ensure all products manufactured are of the highest acceptable quality, meeting all safety and legal requriements as applicable
· Ensure suppliers and factories have the appropriate ethical and/or technical audit in place, CAPS are followed up and maintain a supplier audit database.
· Stay up-to-date with industry regulations and best practices, conducting horizon scanning to identify potential changes affecting product compliance.
· A solid understanding of Sustainability and regulatory compliance across the UK and EU (EPR, EUDR, Plastic Packaging Tax, TSR)
· Carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required.
Essential Skills Knowledge and Experience:
· Good understanding of current legislations, in particular EN71, LVD, EMC, ROHS & REACH/SVHC.
· Experience dealing with major high street retailers and supermarkets – Boots, Tesco, B&M, The Range, Sainsbury, Aldi, Argos preferable
· Strong attention to detail and an aptitude for understanding standards and regulations
· Knowledge of Quality Assurance Systems, i.e. ISO9001 and factory management in the Far East
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
· Good influencing skills as a team player
· Excellent MS office skills particularly Excel and Outlook
· A working knowledge in one or more of the following product categories - toys, stationery, gifts, battery operated lighting.
· A working knowledge of the European market, standards, and regulatory compliance on sustainability and product.
Ideal Skills Knowledge and Experience:
A good understanding of product and manufacturing processes ·
Experience of importing goods having worked with factories worldwide particularly China
An understanding of product standards worldwide
