Overview
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a young, dynamic team of electrophysiology cardiologists within a well-established and highly respected cardiology department. The role includes dedicated sessions in the cardiac catheterisation lab and as part of a robust primary angioplasty rota.
The role emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical leadership, and service development. You will contribute to consultant-led coronary care unit (CCU) ward rounds, management of acute cardiac inpatients, and outpatient cardiology clinics, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
You will be working across two hospital sites, joining a team of 15 consultant cardiologists supported by nurses, physiologists, and resident medical staff. The department maintains a culture of clinical excellence, continuous improvement, and strong educational values, with a track record in innovation and research and encouragement of service development and academic pursuits.
Main duties of the job
* Provide consultant-level care in cardiology, with regular sessions in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory
* Lead daily ward rounds on the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), ensuring continuity of care and timely decisions for acute cardiology patients
* Run consultant-led outpatient cardiology clinics, offering expert diagnostic and treatment services across a range of cardiac conditions
* Supervise, mentor, and teach resident medical staff, including specialty trainees, foundation doctors, and medical students
* Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within the department
* Engage in ongoing educational activities and professional development, both as a participant and facilitator
* Support the department’s involvement in research, innovation, and development of new clinical pathways
* Applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview; alternatively, CESR applicants must already be listed on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of application

Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent
* Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians; Full GMC Registration

* Wide experience in all aspects of Cardiology, with a specialist interest culminating in a CCT
* Training in coronary intervention
