Provide preventative maintenance / mechanical breakdown service and support to the relevant department functions of the mill, which will enable the department to operate at a level of availability and performance within agreed standards. To ensure safety standards are maintained and safe working procedures are adhered to. Reporting any accidents and near misses, to improve the Occupational Safety of personnel. Diagnosing and repairing equipment breakdowns. Identifying failure modes of plant equipment while making recommendations to prevent further failures. Returning equipment to operation safely and in a reasonable timescale. Utilisation of SAP providing necessary feedback on maintenance tasks undertaken detailing corrective actions taken, additional work required & spares used. Locating spare parts using the maintenance management system. Collecting and returning spares to stores. To liaise with engineering day teams to identify and resolve long-term engineering issues. To carry out preventive maintenance routines, including the following: Transmission belt inspection, tensioning and changing Inspection and replacement of bearings and couplings including alignment checking. Installation and maintenance of rotating equipment including pumps, refiners, paper machine rolls, agitators, fans. Removal and fitting of bearings and couplings. Repair and maintenance of all types of seals and packing’s. Turning, milling and grinding of components. General fabrication work. Rigging and lifting of heavy equipment. Fault finding on, and repair of Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems. The Mechanical Day Fitter is expected to provide preventative maintenance and mechanical service and support to the Mill, ensuring continuous improvement in the standards of mechanical engineering, health and safety and environmental performance, such that set business objectives are met. The candidate must keep abreast of technical developments to ensure improvements to both engineering and operational performance. This is against a background of continual pressure to satisfy and improve production requirements all of which could lead to out of hours working. The job holder will have a sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles with a comprehensive understanding of fitting, turning and general fabrication, rigging and lifting of heavy loads. Candidates should possess a formal technical qualification in Mechanical Craft i.e. NVQ Level 3 / C&G Level 3 mechanical or equivalent. General knowledge of industrial plant and process equipment is essential A good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and the application of continuous process environment. Strong Drive, Motivation and Commitment: the extent to which the individual is self starting and self motivated and the degree and consistency of energy / enthusiasm which is committed in the pursuit of objectives and business goals. The post holder should have good analytical skills and the ability to assimilate, organise and analyse pertinent information for logic based problem solving. Ability to meet deadlines. Able to communicate in clear concise manner, both in writing and orally Computer literate with practical experience of CMMS systems. A team worker, with a flexible approach to work.
