Main duties of the job
We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and innovative nurse with experience in Palliative Care to our Clinical Nurse Specialist team.
As a clinical nurse specialist you will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team working together to deliver this specialist service to children and families under the care of Evelina London across the South East network. This will involve travel to local hospitals, hospices and children’s homes.
You will bring excellent communication, clinical skills and a desire to maintain and role model a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. There is an expectation that you will be able to work autonomously. The role also involves an element of lone working.
You will be responsible for developing and delivering specialist pathways of care as part of a multi-professional team, working with care providers across the South East to ensure children, families receive high quality palliative care in the most appropriate setting.
This role will involve taking part in an out of hours telephone on call rota to provide advice and support. The on-call rota is in addition to your contracted hours.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist nursing advice working as part of a multi-professional expert team caring for children and young people on a palliative care or end of life pathway.
You will be act as a role model for excellent advanced communication skills and expertise and demonstrate skills in conflict resolution and competent negotiation skills when dealing with difficult or challenging situations. You will provide clinical supervision to other staff, students and may take part in research & lead clinical audits in this specialist area.
The post holder will ensure the safety and wellbeing of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.

1. BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience

Skills
Essential criteria
6. Evidence of teaching skills in particular teaching patients in how to manage their conditions and raise their awareness of their condition.
7. Ability to carry out audit and research
8. Ability to conduct & evaluate own projects successfully
9. Able to use skills of history taking and physical assessment to direct patient care
10. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills

11. Experience of nursing research /audit
12. Experience of using of variety of IT applications to undertake clinic/meetings and patient care

13. Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care.
14. Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
