Department Overview
Wholesale division at Nomura encompasses the Global Markets and Investment Banking businesses. The division operates across Japan, Asia (ex‑Japan), EMEA and Americas and is a globally integrated franchise. The Investment Banking division provides a comprehensive suite of products and services to corporate, sponsor, financial institutions and government/supranational clients. It delivers strategic advice, financing and derivative solutions across Fixed Income, Equity and Insurance.

Investment Banking Strategy Team – Role Overview
The Investment Banking Strategy team shapes the direction of this division and works directly with senior management to establish the right strategy for achieving Nomura’s investment banking ambitions. Projects include growth strategy, market entry, product and regional strategy, performance reviews, operating model analysis, business optimisation, strategic investments and inorganic growth opportunities, and market and competitor analysis. The team embeds the strategy into business‑specific initiatives with accountability. The London‑based team, part of a global group, collaborates with partners in strategy, COO, Finance, Human Resources and Technology across regions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead strategic projects: own project workstreams from ideation to execution, collaborating closely with team members.

Individual contribution: act as a hands‑on contributor across a diverse range of projects, delivering actionable insights and high‑quality outputs.

Multi‑project management: manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organisational priorities.

Team leadership: train and mentor junior team members, fostering development and ensuring effective workload distribution.

Stakeholder engagement: manage internal stakeholder relationships and serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders.

In this role, the candidate will enjoy meaningful strategic impact, leadership exposure, global collaboration and career advancement.

Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge Required

Senior Associate or Vice President level experience (banking or management consulting preferred but not essential).

Strong PowerPoint proficiency for senior‑management presentations.

Advanced analytical and Excel skills, including financial modelling and data analysis.

Excellent verbal and written communication, confident interaction with senior management.

Attention to detail, efficient multitasking, meeting project deadlines.

Problem‑solving and project‑mode temperament, willing to complete tasks at a high level of skill and professionalism.

Interest in the broader Capital Markets and Investment Banking environment.
