Clerk to Governors at St John the Baptist CE Junior School

Part time: hours based on average 5 hours per week, term time only.
Salary Grade:NJC Scale 6 Point 16 Outer London (FTE £33,417 per annum / Pro-rata for 5 hours per week £3,987 per annum / £17.85 per hour)

The Governors of St John the Baptist Church of England Junior School wish to appoint a highly organised and self-motivated clerk to join this school from September 2025.

The post holder is accountable to the Governing Board, working effectively with the Chair of Governors, and with the Headteacher and other Governors.

The Clerk to the Governors will ensure the smooth running of the Governing Board; preparing agendas and meeting papers, taking accurate and well-constructed minutes, giving administrative support, keeping records and up-to-date information on policies and date of reviews, and providing procedural and legislative advice to the governing body. You must have excellent organisational, communication and ICT skills. You should have an interest in education, be reliable, proactive, efficient and well organised.

The role will require good listening and interpersonal skills. You should be professional, friendly and approachable and able to deal with confidential matters.

This is a part time role, covering 4 full Governing Board meetings and 12 committee meetings per school year. Meetings are held in term time. Full Governing Board (FGB) meetings are usually held weekdays from 6pm, while committee meetings usually take place weekdays from 8am. The post holder is also expected to attend all relevant training events and briefings, and occasional ad-hoc governor meetings that may be required.

The salary is paid through payroll for hours worked on a monthly or termly basis, and receives an included amount for leave. Hours payable include the whole meeting process (emails, calls and agenda preparation, writing up and distributing minutes) and attending regular training events. Estimated hours for the current year total are approximately 186.

Experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided as required

The appointment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including references, medical clearance and an enhanced DBS disclosure.
