Woking & Sam Beare Hospice are pleased to announce the following position:

Therapy Assistant

We are a patient-centred charity that delivers palliative and end of life care to those with advanced life-limiting illnesses, who live in Northwest Surrey. We care for patients and provide support to families and carers in the community as well as in our In-Patient Unit and Well Being Centre at the Hospice.

You will, therefore, be joining a passionate and dedicated team of professionals that make a real difference to the families across Surrey community.

Clinical Colleague

A successful Therapy Assistant will be able to:

1. Support the WSBH therapy team by providing walking aids and other items of equipment to patients who have been assessed by qualified staff (Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists)
2. Carry out follow-up visits for patients who have had an initial assessment by a senior therapist, to assist with rehab programmes and interventions as appropriate
3. Work flexibly as part of the therapy team and wider hospice team across community, inpatient and Wellbeing services offered to patients of Woking and Sam Beare Hospice
4. Undertake effective communication with patients and their relatives as well as the wider multi-disciplinary team
5. Assist the therapy team with day-to-day administrative duties including data collection, onward referrals and equipment order as well as maintenance processes

A successful candidate will have:

6. Work experience in a health care setting in inpatient or community healthcare setting
7. Good verbal and written communication skills
8. Good computer literacy with knowledge of MS Office
9. Effective time management skills
10. Openness to learn and work towards completion of therapy assistant competencies relevant to the role
11. Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
12. Ability to empathise with patients that are terminally ill
13. Full driving license, insurance and access to a vehicle for community visits and the ability to carry small pieces of equipment such as walking frames and wheelchairs
14. Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
