Specialist Biomedical Scientist – 12 month Fixed Term / Secondment
Position on a 12‑month fixed term contract (secondment) at the National Microbiology Reference Unit, part of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS).

About the Post
Carry out microbiological testing for viral markers transmissible by blood transfusion, provide confirmatory testing with a range of microbiological assays and algorithms, train in all areas of the NMRU—including serological and molecular testing—and participate in validations, assay development and epidemiological research.
Responsibilities
* Perform microbiological testing for transmissible viral markers.
* Provide confirmatory testing using microbiological assays and algorithms.
* Train and support staff in serological and molecular testing procedures.
* Engage in assay validation, development and epidemiological research as required.
Qualifications
* Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences or a comparable qualification.
* Current HCPC registration.
* Experience in molecular biology techniques, PCR and/or microbiological serological methods is desirable.
* High attention to detail and proficiency in standard Microsoft Office.
Contract and Working Pattern
12‑month fixed term secondment. Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
Location: Jack Copland Centre, 52 Research Avenue N, Currie, EH14 4BE. Applicants must be UK residents.
