Experienced Buyer required, Basildon, Essex. May suit someone who is a Buyer seeking to advance to a Senior Buyer role. You will need purchasing experience in the manufacturing sector.
We are recruiting for a Buyer for a leading electronics manufacturing company based in Basildon, Essex. You will need to have purchasing experience within the manufacturing sector (ideally electronics or engineering). With over 40 years’ experience, our client have built a strong reputation for the on-time delivery of printed circuit boards, PCBAs, box builds, and final assemblies. As a Buyer, you are based in the newly formed Commercial team based at the Basildon office and are an integral part of the purchasing team. This role could suit an experienced Buyer seeking to progress to a Senior Buyer.
You are responsible for the purchasing of products and components by expediting urgent requirements and liaising with suppliers to ensure delivery and quality targets are met. You will also support the costing activities for new quotes to provide accurate information for ordering in the future. You need to work closely with your account management colleagues and the operations team to ensure the effective supply of materials for the production line to meet our customers’ requirements. It will be important to build strong working relationships with suppliers and understand company / customer stock requirements; ensuring that the system is updated and maintained with accurate data.
Main responsibilities
* Solicit and negotiate supplier price, lead time and delivery quotations.
* Analyse complex data for multiple components and make decisions on the best purchasing options.
* Use the MRP system, Factory Master and any group purchasing models to support buying and quoting activities.
* Manage purchasing for all customers including buying, expediting and pushouts.
* Enable effective supplier selection, assessment, performance and improvement.
* Develop close working relationships with other key functions (account management, engineering, quality and production) to support commercial negotiations for new projects. Make suggestions to improve current processes for increased operational efficiency and increase business performance: working towards a strategy of continuous improvement
Skills, knowledge & experience
* Some experience of working for a manufacturing company with an understanding of electronic products and knowledge of component purchasing and commodity buying (plastics, metals etc.)
* Previous buying experience, minimum 4 years.
* Excellent organisation and planning skills; confident to prioritise and juggle competing demands.
* Strong numeracy and analytical ability; using Excel and databases.
* Confident user of stock or MRP systems (IFS or Factory Master would be advantageous).
Remuneration package
* Salary £ competitive salary (dependent on skills & experience)
* Working hours: Full time is currently 37 hours per week. Mon to Thurs 08:00 to 16:30 and Fri 08:00 to 13:30
* Holiday: 20 days plus Bank Holidays (includes Christmas shutdown). Plus, up to 5 days for long service
