Role Overview
Seeking an experienced Metering Engineer to lead the design and deployment of industrial utilities metering solutions across multiple Life Sciences sites.
This is a senior technical role with responsibility for site-level technical coordination, early-phase site surveys, and end-to-end delivery of metering solutions. The role will initially involve significant travel for site assessments before transitioning to more remote delivery.
You will act as the OT technical expert, bridging instrumentation, automation, and IT/OT integration, while ensuring solutions meet cybersecurity, sustainability, and international compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead site-level technical coordination for metering deployments
* Conduct site surveys and technical assessments as OT subject matter expert
* Design and validate metering connectivity architecture (PLCs, SCADA, gateways, PME)
* Oversee configuration, commissioning, and interface validation
* Ensure cybersecurity compliance in collaboration with central Cyber SMEs
* Drive robust communications integration across OT/IT boundaries
* Manage site-level documentation, testing, and change control
* Provide technical support to local site teams
* Report to Cluster Project Managers and the Central Technical Lead Architect
Detailed Responsibilities
* Perform on-site feasibility assessments for electricity, gas, diesel, water, and wastewater metering
* Review engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, electrical single-line diagrams)
* Recommend compliant metering solutions aligned to internal standards, hazardous areas, and installation constraints
* Select appropriate meter technologies, sizes, accuracy classes, and communication protocols
* Integrate metering solutions with PLCs, gateways, SCADA systems, and Schneider PME platforms
* Collaborate with OT/IT teams to define network and cybersecurity requirements
* Provide technical input to OEMs and installation contractors
* Maintain full traceability of as-is and to-be designs, including lessons learned
Required Skills & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, or Control Engineering
* Proven experience delivering industrial utilities metering solutions
* (electricity, gas, steam, water, wastewater)
* Strong understanding of flow measurement principles and metering technologies
* In-depth knowledge of communication protocols:
* Modbus TCP/RTU
* Ethernet/IP
* RS-485
* Pulse and analog signals
* Hands-on experience with PLCs, gateways, SCADA systems, and PME integration
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and produce structured technical documentation
* Experience working on global or multi-site programmes
* Knowledge of hazardous area equipment selection and installation
* Familiarity with international standards (ATEX, CSA, etc.)
* Strong stakeholder communication and coordination skills
* Experience handling large datasets for energy data verification
Desirable Skills
* Experience in Life Sciences or regulated manufacturing environments
* Sustainability, utilities optimisation, or energy efficiency programmes
* Schneider Electric PME and Resource Advisor (RA)
* Prior experience supporting procurement and vendor technical validation
