We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging full time teacher to teach DT across Key Stage 2 and Years 7&8. The role will be offered on a part time basis where flexibility is offered to candidates who wish to maintain a work/life balance. The Head of DT will aim to establish the highest standards of learning, progress and attainment in Design & Technology for all pupils.

Job Description

Objectives

* To foster enjoyment and enthusiasm for DT
* To raise continuously standards of pupil achievement in DT at all levels

Principal Areas of Responsibility and Key Tasks

* To be responsible for the Department Health and Safety Policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate
* To take full responsibility for the development and strategic direction of DT as a subject throughout the school
* To lead curriculum development within the Department
* To be aware of current developments within the subject and teaching and learning generally, ensuring that the subject is at the leading edge of performance

and practice

* To implement strategies for raising and maximising achievement and progress within the Department.
* To ensure that the subject is delivered in an effective manner, using new and emerging technologies as appropriate
* To ensure that teaching within the department meets the needs of all learners and specifically SEND pupils
* Manage effective deployment and use of resources

Key Tasks

* Teaching DT to boys in Years 3 to 8
* Ensuring that the DT curriculum is delivered effectively throughout the School in a stimulating and engaging way
* Maintaining coherent links throughout the School in the teaching of DT
* Writing a Departmental Development Plan (annual) and responding to DT-related items on the School's Development Plan
* Promoting the subject by encouraging and leading special events and displays of work
* Maintaining and revising the DT schemes of work

Provide a programme of study for more able pupils Keeping records and minutes of departmental meetings

* Monitoring and developing pupils' individual development
* Developing and encouraging the use of computer software and machinery in the teaching of DT
* To lead the teaching of DT by example
* To lead professional development in DT
* To manage the DT Department budget
* Arranging suitable visits and visitors to enrich the curriculum

Additional Duties

* To be a Form Teacher, if requested
* To carry out duties, as requested
* To run at least one extra-curricular activity
* To attend the annual residential trips, if required
* To attend at Parent Meetings for the classes taught
* To attend at Staff Meetings and InSeTs

Qualifications and Knowledge

* A thorough knowledge of the subject
* The candidate should have attained QTS, and will be expected to hold a degree
* Ability to teach all subject areas including; Resistant Materials, Workshop Skills, CAD/CAM, Mechanisms, Circuits, Engineering, Control Systems, Structures,

Graphics and Textiles

* Proficient ICT skills
* Training and experience in the use of DT machinery and equipment

Skills, Competences and Qualities

* An enthusiasm for the teaching of subject and the contribution of that subject to a broad and balanced curriculum
* An understanding of how pupils learn and progress in their knowledge, understanding and skills in the subject area
* The ability to deliver lessons which provide both access and challenge for all students
* Plan lessons that engage and motivate pupils including planning for Trips and ACE (Alternative Curriculum Experience) Days
* Can work as part of the School's team
* Extremely professional: diligent, punctual and thorough, encouraging an atmosphere of mutual respect when dealing with boys, staff and parents
* Excellent communicator, with children and adults alike
* Organised and able to plan effectively
* Keeps appraised of new ideas/developments in education
* Contributes to the School outside the classroom

Catering and cleaning are outsourced, with external contract staff working onsite to provide term-time services. In addition, the School hosts a range of visiting music, LAMDA and extra-curricular activity tutors.
