Health Improvement Officer (Tobacco Control)
Sheffield and the Public Health Service
Sheffield is a brilliant and diverse city of nearly 600,000 people and is the fourth biggest city in England. We have amazing environmental, cultural, sporting and heritage assets, and are proud of the fact that our outdoor city has been named as the greenest in the UK and is the only city in the UK to include a national park within its boundaries.
The award-winning Public Health Service has recently undergone some changes and is now a single service closely allied with the council’s Integrated Commissioning Service under the leadership of the Director of Public Health. This aligning of the Public Health Service alongside Integrated Commissioning brings exciting new partnerships and development opportunities for staff.
It is a very exciting time to be working in the field of tobacco control. Through maximising the additional national investment Sheffield has received for local community stop smoking services and incentives for smoking cessation in pregnancy, we have a real opportunity to make smoking obsolete and achieve the government ambition to achieve a Smokefree generation by 2030. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, currently progressing through parliament, is set to be a game changer in achieving a Smokefree society and protecting children from harm.
