Purpose of the role
Are you creative, full of ideas, and looking to kickstart your career in communications? We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Communications Apprentice to join our Performance Team in Portsmouth (P06 1TA) on a 24 month FTC. You’ll play a key role in keeping local communities, businesses and schools informed about our work on the Portsmouth Highways PFI contract – from road improvements to social value events. As part of the Apprenticeship you will complete a Level 3 in Marketing Assistant, learning and training while on the job.
Main Responsibilities
* Support the team in informing local communities and businesses about the Portsmouth Highways contract.
* Create clear and engaging communications such as leaflets, posters, social media posts, and newsletters.
* Visit schools and businesses near worksites to share information and answer questions.
* Plan and schedule social media content, capture photos of projects and events, and gather public feedback through customer satisfaction surveys.
* Produce a monthly internal newsletter for site teams and build a library of visual content.
Ideal Candidate
* A‑C in English and Maths.
* Passion for marketing and communications with strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Confident speaking with a range of people, including the public and on‑site teams.
* Creative, organised and detail‑oriented, particularly when producing written content or managing social media.
* Good computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office tools such as Excel.
* Positive, proactive and eager to learn, with a professional approach and readiness to make the most of the opportunity.

* Apprentice salary rate (dependent on age and level of apprenticeship already)
