About the School
Avicenna School is an independent secondary school named after Ibn Sina (Avicenna), the preeminent philosopher and physician of the Golden Age. Founded in 2024, we are building a transformative learning environment where strong values, academic rigour, and innovative teaching methodologies come together to prepare students for success in all aspects of life. Our vision is encapsulated in our motto: “We do not teach fish to fly and we do not teach birds to swim.” Every student is recognised as unique, and our educational model is designed to identify and nurture each individual’s strengths and talents. We operate on the Cambridge Lower Secondary framework at Key Stage 3 (Years 7‑9) and are developing our Key Stage 4 provision. With small class sizes – a maximum of 16 in mainstream and 6 in SEN core groups – we ensure that every student receives personalised attention. Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver outstanding English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring all students make excellent progress regardless of starting point
* Develop and refine schemes of work aligned with the Cambridge Lower Secondary framework and, where applicable, GCSE specifications
* Use a range of innovative and evidence‑based teaching strategies that promote active learning, critical thinking, and a love of English
* Differentiate effectively to meet the needs of all learners, including students with SEND and those who are more able
* Assess student progress rigorously and use data to inform planning, intervention, and reporting
* Contribute to the development of English as a department, including curriculum design, resource creation, and enrichment activities
* Foster a classroom environment rooted in mutual respect, high expectations, and the school's THRIVE values
* Model excellence in all aspects of professional conduct, preparation, and delivery
* Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, communicating progress and concerns effectively
* Participate in the wider life of the school, including assemblies, events, and pastoral care
* Engage in continuous professional development and respond constructively to feedback from lesson observations and learning walks
We are seeking an exceptional Teacher of English to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate English specialist to shape the English curriculum at a school in its formative phase. The post is open to candidates seeking either part‑time or full‑time employment.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with extensive experience of teaching English at Key Stages 3 and 4. You will bring a deep knowledge of the English curriculum, a commitment to high academic standards, and the creativity to inspire a love of language, literature, and communication in every student.
